Ao som de quatro jovens compositores e instrumentistas – Artur Andrés, Décio Ramos, Marco Antônio Guimarães e Paulo Santos – o BDMG Cultural foi inaugurado, no dia 14 de dezembro de 1988. Esses quatro músicos formavam o UAKTI, um grupo musical à frente do seu tempo, com instrumentos e sonoridade próprios.
Acompanhados pelo Coral Lírico de Minas Gerais, se apresentaram no auditório ao lado da galeria que abrigava, logo em sua estreia, uma exposição emblemática na história da instituição e do Estado: “Guignard – Obras Raras e Coleções Mineiras”, com curadoria de José Alberto Nemer.
Em um momento de importantes acontecimentos na vida social, cultural e política do Brasil, com a recém redemocratização do país, o BDMG Cultural assume, já naquele momento, a pauta de cultura como fundamental ao desenvolvimento do Estado.

BDMG Cultural opening was on December 14th 1988 to the sound of four young composers and instrumentalists- Artur Andrés, Décio Ramos, Marco Antônio Guimarães e Paulo Santos . These 4 musicians were the members of UAKTI, a musical group ahead of their time, with their own handmade musical instruments and unique style.
UAKTI group and Coral Lírico de Minas Gerais – Classical Choir of Minas Gerais – performed together in the auditorium of BDMG Cultural. In its premiere the gallery beside the auditorium was showing an emblematic exhibition in the history of the Institution and the state of Minas Gerais: “Guignard – Obras Raras e Coleções Mineiras”, “Guignard – Rare Works and Collections from Minas Gerais” conceived by the curator José Alberto Nemer.
BDMG Cultural took on the cultural agenda as a key for the development of the State by the time of the redemocratization of the country when important events took place in the social, cultural and political scenarios in Brazil.
